TxDOT Bridge Work At I-40 And I-27 Interchange Begins, May Cause Traffic Delays
Beginning today and throughout the rest of June, road work by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the eastbound I-40 bridge at the I-27 interchange will impact traffic on Interstate 40 in the Amarillo area.
TxDOT expects the project to take about two and a half weeks. The work will be completed in two phases, and traffic delays are expected with the various lane and ramp closures. Crews will be working on the project during both the daytime and overnight hours.
Texas Department of Transportation
During the first phase that starts Friday, June 14, crews will work on the left lanes, with phase two impacting the right lanes, TxDOT said.
Because of its location, the second phase of work will require the following six on and off ramps to be temporarily closed:
Georgia Street to I-40 eastbound entrance ramp
I-40 eastbound to Washington Street exit ramp
Washington Street to I-40 eastbound entrance ramp
I-40 eastbound to I-27 southbound exit ramp
I-40 eastbound to US 287 northbound exit ramp
US 287 southbound to I-40 eastbound entrance ramp
"Allow yourself enough time to safely reach your destination if these closures affect your commute," TxDOT Amarillo said in the announcement posted on its Facebook page. "Drivers are reminded to exercise caution and reduce speed when traveling through work zones."
Projects are subject to change due to weather, emergency work and other unexpected events. For the most up-to-date road conditions, visit www.Drivetexas.Org.
