The UAB Critical Care Medicine fellowship program is housed within one of the largest Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine divisions in the nation. Our goal is to assist you in building the skills you need to fulfil your personal professional goals in a supportive learning environment.
We offer an unparalleled breadth of clinical exposure as your training will occur primarily in the 1157-bed UAB Hospital, which is among the 20 largest and best equipped in the nation, with a large catchment area. We are privileged to provide care to diverse population of patients, offering access to physicians that are considered leaders in their subspecialties.
Our fellows train in a busy University hospital ICU, cross training in surgical, cardiac and neurology ICUs, and also rotating on our ECMO, VA, and e-ICU services. Our fellows have the opportunity to rotate in a community hospital ICU as well as have exposure to rural critical care via our Tele-ICU program.Along with robust didactics within our division, that include a rigorous orientation "Boot Camp" that includes an Airway Management workshop, as well as a summer "Nuts and Bolts" curriculum, our fellows attend a regular noon conference lecture series, hands-on POCUS curriculum as well as ventilator simulation curriculum.Our fellows have access to shared didactics with cardiac critical care, neuro-critical care, anesthesia critical care and surgical critical care. Our fellows are competent in all critical care procedures, including but not limited to: Airway Management,Chest Tubes,Basic Bronchoscopy, Central Venous Catheters, Arterial Access, Paracentesis, Thoracentesis, Lumbar Puncture, and Percutaneous Tracheostomy
