Bacterial biofilm (BF) formation in patients with malignancy | IDR - Dove Medical Press

Image
Introduction Double J ureteral stent, frequently used for indwelling ureter, can effectively relieve ureteral obstruction and prevent ureteral stenosis. 1 Consequently, preoperative or intraoperative indwelling double J stent is a common measure to prevent ureteral injury 2 as well as postoperative upper urinary tract obstruction due to surgery or metastasis of tumor in patients with malignant tumors, especially gynecological and urinary malignant tumors. 3 However, its therapeutic effect is undermined by complications, such as urinary tract infection and urinary sepsis in severe cases, which threatens the life and health of patients. 4 It has been confirmed by relevant research that bacteria biofilm (BF) formation, membrane-like substances formed by bacteria adhering to the surface, can enable bacteria to develop drug resistance against antimicrobial agents. 5 As a result, it is considered that the formation of BF may be a key contributory factor to the relapse and intractabi...

How to Treat a Baby With a Yeast Infection - Verywell Health

Image
Our body contains a host of microorganisms that are not harmful to us. However, when they grow out of control, they can make us ill. One example is the Candida yeast .  Candida is found both on our skin and inside our body, in the mouth, throat, gut, and vaginal area. It is usually harmless. However, when it grows uncontrollably, especially in babies, it causes yeast infections. Yeast often proliferates in warm and moist areas. In infants, yeast infections most likely occur in the diaper area, but they can also occur in other skin folds around the armpit, neck, or mouth. When yeast overgrows and causes a diaper rash, it's called a yeast diaper rash. It generally causes a red rash with a slightly raised border. If you notice your baby has a yeast diaper rash, there are some home remedies and over-the-counter treatments you can use to help your baby. Gastritis and gastroenteritis may have similar names, but they are different health conditions. Gastritis tends to affect the lining of the stomach, whereas gastroenteritis affects the intestines. Gastritis is inflammation, or irritation, of the stomach lining. Gastroenteritis, on the other hand, is inflammation of the intestine, or the stomach and the bowel. Gastritis can be acute or chronic. This article will explain the key differences between the two conditions, what causes them, and their main symptoms. It will also look at treatments and prevention and when to consult a doctor. Gastritis and gastroenteritis are two separate conditions with different causes and symptoms, and they affect different parts of the di...

Staying compliant and committed to infection control in 2022 - RDH

Image
The pandemic has made us hyperaware of disease transmission and infection control (IC) in our offices. But are we maintaining that vigilance? To protect ourselves and patients from disease transmission, we must continue to revisit our existing infection control policies and make sure proper protocols and precautions are in place. We need to continue to observe these appropriate controls, including hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance, environmental surface disinfection, and up-to-date infection control training within our offices. Since 1996 dental practices have abided by expanded Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations and best practices following standard precautions. 1 Standard precautions include hand hygiene, use of PPE, respiratory hygiene, sharps safety, sterilization, environmental surface disinfection, and safe injection practices. 1   The CDC continues to provide us with recommendations for contr...
